Divisions
Patrol Division
Our Patrol Division is led by the Patrol Commander. We are proud of the men and women in our Patrol Division. In most cases, the Patrol Officer will be the first point of contact for our citizens.
The Patrol Division is the primary prevention and apprehension part of our agency. The Lavon Police Department provides 24 hours a day – 7 days week coverage for the City of Lavon. Patrol Officers answer calls for service; enforce traffic laws; investigate motor vehicle collisions; take criminal reports; conduct initial investigations; respond to emergencies; and are representatives of law enforcement to our citizens and visitors. The Patrol Division consists of full-time and reserve Officers.
Criminal Investigation Division
Our Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is led by our Criminal Investigations Division Commander. CID is tasked with the investigation of all major crimes in the City of Lavon. Our CID Detectives work varying shifts and are subject to call out. CID consists of full-time and reserve detectives.
Traffic Enforcement Unit
Our Traffic Enforcement Unit is a part of the Patrol Division. Our Traffic Enforcement Officers focus on enforcing traffic laws and investigating motor vehicle collisions. They also provide backup to our Patrol Officers when needed.
Records Management Unit
The Records Management Unit (RMU) is a stand-alone unit. Our RMU consists of our records clerical staff, Evidence Technician, Court Bailiff, Training Coordinator and Administrative Officer. The ASU is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm. For copies of reports, police records or to contact the police administration, you may contact the Administrative Services Unit at PoliceRecords@LavonTX.gov or at 972 843-4219.
Special Investigations Unit
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is part of the Criminal Investigations Division. Our SIU Investigators work with victims of serious “person on person” trauma crimes, focusing on family violence and sexual assault. This unique approach helps to reduce retraumatizing victims and is intended to return control to victims in these cases.
Community Relations Unit
The Community Relations Unit (CRU) is part of the Patrol Division. Our CRU handles all social media, Community Relations and Crime Prevention duties. Members also organize in community events, as well as other educational and community service activities. Examples of some Community Relations programs are: Participation in Fall Fest; Halloween Patrol; Participation in the City of Lavon’s Camp 911; Babysitters Club; and the DEA National Drug Take Back Program. The Lavon Police Department CRU is also partnered with the Lavon Area Fitting Station & SafeKids Greater Dallas to provide Child Safety Seat Checks with Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. The CRU consists of one full-time officer, but often multiple officers & staff members help to run programs throughout the year.
Police Support Volunteer Program
The Police Support Volunteer (PSV) program is a part of the Community Relations Unit. Members of the PSV are non-sworn, unpaid volunteer personnel who perform some duties within the department that do not require the authority of a sworn police officer. Police Support Volunteers may be assigned to serve in the following capacities: records management support (RMU); criminal investigative support (CID); community relations support (CRU); or field services support (Patrol Division).
